Mission: to support and strengthen democratic developments in Armenia, to invest in building atmosphere of security, justice and tolerance not only in Armenia, but in the regions as well.

Founded and registered in Armenia in 1994 as NGO “Democracy Today” – is union of public leaders, scholars, activists whose aim is to support and strengthen  democratic achievements and human rights in Armenia.

Through the years there have been developed four main directions of work of “Democracy Today”: Peace building and Conflict transformation, Political parties and elections, Gender studies and Research unit.

The methods of work of “Democracy Today“ has been developed through years of work and experience: situational analysis and developed on that analysis practical projects and their implementation. Organization gives it’s preference to involvement of youth in it’s projects.

Projects:

NGO “Democracy Today” implements three projects: “Assisting Victims of Trafficking and Building Society Inclusive and Sensitive to Victims of Trafficking”, “New Women of Armenia” and “Conflict Resolution”.

Since 01.05.2004 “Democracy Today” has been implemented a counter-trafficking project “Assisting Victims of Trafficking and Building Society Inclusive and Sensitive to Victims of Trafficking” in cooperation with UMCOR. The project activities have encompassed the following main directions: information campaigns and awareness building among different layers of population, identification of victims and their referral to UMCOR shelter  for assistance, reintegration of victims into their communities and families and capacity building of project staff.

The main goals of this project are:

·         to assist trafficking victims giving them material, medical and legal support

·         to build society inclusive and sensitive to victims of trafficking spreading information in capital and regions of Armenia in order to prevent development of trafficking in the country

The project of “New women of Armenia” started in 2000 “Rural Women’s Leadership Project“ aimed at  providing to women in 20 the most vulnerable communities in the border regions of Armenia necessary knowledge and skills to start up their new market oriented agricultural projects. Developed and implemented in partnership with Rutgers University in New Jersey 20 women have started their small family agri businesses. In seven years the project expanded involving more than 500 and covering 50 villages.  The results of this project are that women of several villages have group work and income. There were partially or totally renovated  schools, libraries, village women’s clubs, was constructed sports complex, etc.

The main goals of the project are:

·         to alleviate poverty in rural areas through increasing participation of women in income generation and decision making

·         to increase marketing of products produced by women through establishing direct contacts with companies and partners: organization of fair, which has become traditional and each year more participatory

·         to make quality of produced products by women compatible in market with our advices and agricultural books

·         to decrease the emigration
